How to Attend Web Analytics Wednesday Event

I read this great post about this event and web analytics community members, read and learn more how this community started and how people give for this community without expecting anything back other than taking web analytics to next level, read here: web analytics analysis

I have been a member of this group for a long time and always got their messages, emails about the events they are having in downtown Philadelphia. Well many times thought about attending one of the events and could never make it. You know how it feels end of the work day, you are already tired and in your head you start thinking, should I go home an relax or join this event. Then you start thinking, well I will fight the traffic especially at rush hour all the nuts out there, spend an hour on the way and then get there, well is it worth it? It’s well worth it!

Yesterday finally I made my mind to attend this event for the first time in my life, I have been in SEM industry more than 5 years now and heavily worked with web analytics, started as paid search, seo, sem then finally focused on more web analytics, I believe it’s always very helpful to meet with other people in the same space as you, networking and learning new things from them always helps. Nobody can say they know all, we always have a lot to learn from others regardless of age and experience.

You never know where you will get your message from.

Sometimes it’s all about being at the right place at the right time. Long story short, I went downtown to Ritten House Square where event took place, to the Rittenhouse hotel.

People were very friendly and helpful. I met a lot of people from different companies and different positions, and had some conversations about Google analytics, Omniture, Webtrends, Coremetrics. Overall other than individuals there, I want to talk about this community.

This is really amazing, there were about 30 40 people and all the people there had one thing common, web analytics is their passion, they don’t get paid to be there or they don’t pay anybody to be there either. I can’t believe these events are free to attend and they are sponsored by different web analytics companies. I also thought WAW, web analytics wednesday events did not have a long history, I thought couple years ago somebody just started this. When I learned it started back in 2005 I was pretty impressed. If you consider internet started at 1990?s and Google was born in 1998, 2005 is a very impressive time to have  a history of 7 years in web analytics community….

I love doing what I do everyday, web analytics and internet is my passion, if you consider I graduated from college in 1998 the year Google was born, I come from a generation who saw pagers, lived with no cellphones or internet, first experienced dial up connections, tried to upload games to commodore 64 with tape drivers, used floppy disks etc. Yes I do think internet is cool because we weren’t born with it, to the new generation internet is not amazing, it’s just like electric for them, it’s so normal and natural. I believe in 10 years web analytics will come to a level that we can’t even visualize or imagine now and this will all happen by the help of every single person that was there at that event yesterday or attending these events or helping the web analytics community to move to another level…
